Future Work

The decarbonisation of heat is a major concern in the global journey towards net zero carbon.  From our analysis it is clear that both hydrogen fuel and electrification of heating offer promising possibilities.  Further research in the following areas is recommended:

  • Further analysis of the use of hydrogen boilers as the technology develops.

  • Modelling the effects that using university owned renewable electricity would have on the operational costs and profits of the water source heat pump system.

  • Demand reduction if the buildings connected to the district heating network were retrofitted to passive house standard.

  • How different building control systems affect supply and demand.
